42 hurt in Jallikattu near Thanjavur

THANJAVUR: A total of 42 persons including four police personnel on duty were injured in the ‘jallikattu’ event held at Thirukanurpatti, 20-km from here on Sunday.

In other incidents 38 persons, mostly tamers, were injured.
Eight persons including four police personnel were admitted to Thanjavur Medical College hospital.
The names of the injured police constables were given as Dravidamani of Thanjavur West police station, Senthilvelan of Armed reserve and women police constables Vinitha and Surekha.
A total 654 bulls from various districts participated in the ‘jallikattu’. A total of 254 bull-tamers took part in the sport.
R. Vaithilingam, MP and deputy coordinator of AIADMK inaugurated the ‘jallikattu’. K. Parasursman MP, Mr. Loganathan, DIG of police and Maheswaran, SP, Thanjavur, were among those who were present at the venue.
