I will request K Chandrasekhar Rao to look into organic farming: Kalvakuntla Kavitha
Organic farming has to be taken up like a movement on a large scale.
Hyderabad: Heavy usage of pesticides is a major issue across Telangana state and India and the government has to incentivise production of organic food to counter it, said MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha at the valedictory function of ‘Women of India Organic Festival’ at Shilparamam on Sunday.
The Nizamabad MP said, “I want to request union minister Maneka Sanjay Gandhi to ensure that Central government incentives reach small and marginal farmers. Organic farming has to be taken up like a movement on a large scale.”
Highlighting the concerns of being a woman farmer, she said, “In case of Telangana, if I am a woman farmer cultivating a two-acre land, I cannot even dream of going organic because production goes down, which in turn means viability reduces. How can I, as a farmer, sustain and produce organically? It is a challenge for both the state and central government.”
She added, “I will personally take it up with CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao to look into organic farming as a concept and incentivise it.”
