Kochi: The Motor vehicle department to check vehicle headlights with lux meters
The violators will be given warning to change the bulb of the headlamp.
Kochi: The Motor vehicle department will soon intensify the drive to check the intensity of vehicle headlights with lux meters across the state.
Transport commissioner K. Padmakumar told DC that training schedule for the officials of the department on the meter will be prepared in 10 days.
"The training will be done in six zones so that selected officials can easily attend the training," he said.
150 lux meters have been distributed to the 14 districts three months ago after it was found that bright headlights caused several road accidents in the state.
The device captures the light and converts it into an electric current which is then measured to calculate the intensity of light. A fine will be imposed on the driver if the intensity exceeds the limit set by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). In addition, the violators will be given warning to change the bulb of the headlamp.
"Only a fine will be imposed at first. But if the violations are found again, we might suspend the fitness certificate or registration certificate of the vehicle along with the suspending the driver's license," MVD officials said.
