Masi Maham festival starts with flag hoisting ceremony

THANJAVUR: The ten-day ‘Masi Maham’ festival began with flag hoisting at all the Shiva temples at Kumbakonam near here on Sunday.
Flags were hoisted at Adhikumbeswaraswsmy, Kasi Viswanathar, Kalahastheeswarar, Viyalasomeswarar and Gowthameswarar temples.
Hundreds of people witnessed the holy event. ‘Masi Maham’ festival will be held between 12 noon to 1 pm on February 19, sources said.
Flag hoisting will be held at all the Vaishnavite temples on Monday. Principal deities of Shiva temples will converge at Mahamaham tank on February 19 for ‘Theerthavari’ and principal deities of Vaishnavite temples will converge at Cauvery for Theerthavari. That is the climax of the festival.
