Severe staff crunch in HMDA delays projects

Hyderabad: The HMDA is working with half the 600 staff that it requires, for several months. The government has not been filling vacancies caused by staff retiring every month.

Against the requirement of 100 officials, the planning department has 60, including those on deputation. There are three officers in the survey department to conduct field surveys, while the vacancies are 15.

Sources said the accounts department had 140 staff against the sanctioned 334. All 15 posts of junior accountants, 16 typists and nine senior stenographers were vaca-nt for three years, an official said. The HMDA has 13 junior assistants against 45 sanctioned posts, six senior assistants doing the work of 33, The urban forestation wing has 17 personnel against the 37 requi-red. The development wing has 60 staff agai-nst the 110 needed.

Sources said this was resulting in severe inc-onvenience for people who visit the HMDA to get layout and several other works.
