Shah: BJP curbed terror, Naxalism, Northeast struggles, says Amit Shah
Shah said during the past seven decades, the country has seen several ups and downs and also several challenging times in internal security
Hyderabad: Union home minister Amit Shah said the BJP-led government at the Centre had controlled terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, internal struggles in the northeast and left wing extremism in several parts of the country, even as he urged police officers to adapt themselves to multi-dimensional policing.
“Eight years ago the internal security situation was in a different shape,” he told IPS probationers during the Dikshant Parade at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) here on Saturday. “By addressing the respective issues, we have established peace in these areas and have put them on the path of development.”
“By banning the Popular Front of India (PFI), we have shown the world our commitment towards democracy and also our efforts to uproot terror from its roots. Zero tolerance for terrorism and strengthening agencies have been yielding results,” Shah added.
He urged the probationers of the 74 RR batch — whom he called the Amrit Kaal batch, as their service would cover the period till 2047, the Independence Day centenary — to adopt to multi-dimensional policing to face new challenges and become a part of the call for technology mission given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The threats have changed from the geographic front to the thematic front, where you have to deal with cyber crimes, data misuse and misinformation and you have to be equipped to address them,” he said.
The technology mission aims at making every police officer tech-savvy, equip them to deal with the new challenges arising due to the use of technology and the resulting Internal security aspects.
He noted that a majority of the officers passing out from the academy had a technology background. “Every Indian citizen has a role to achieve the goal set up by the Prime Minister Modi for 2047. But as such goals cannot be achieved with a strong internal security, you as IPS officers will have a special responsibility in achieving this goal,” Shah told the probationers.
In addition to being equipped to fight terror financing, narco terror and fourth generation warfare, the officers should focus on protection of rights of the vulnerable, stick to evidence-based investigation. “Police technology mission should be the focus, it should be taken ahead with awareness, preparedness and enforcement.”
Before addressing the probationers, Amit Shah paid tribute to the martyrs, reviewed the parade commanded by batch topper Shahansha K.S., distributed prizes to the trophy winners.
The parade was attended by families of the probationers, former directors of the academy and police officials.
