Hyderabad: For the first time in Telangana, a maximum peak power demand of 14,649 MW was reached on Saturday. On Friday, it was recorded at 14,169 MW. Power consumption of agriculture has also increased. Top officials of power utilities said that Telangana stood second in the consumption of power among southern states.

Farmers in Telangana mainly depend on submersible pump sets for agriculture needs. Power consumption for agricultural needs has increased to 37 per cent from 35 per cent. On the other hand, power consumption for domestic needs has risen due to fluctuations in temperatures.

Officials of power discoms estimate that power demand may touch 15000 MW in peak summer season. They are confident that they will supply uninterrupted power to both agriculture and domestic sectors.

Meanwhile, energy minister G. Jagadish Reddy said that ahead of the peak summer season, they had met maximum power demand in the state. “We are able to supply 18000 MW if peak demand touches that mark”, he said.
