KOZHIKODE: The Malayora Vikasana Samithy, patronized by the Thamarassery diocese, released the  copy of a letter  on Thursday claimed to have been  written by IUML leader P.K. Kunhalikkutty to Mr Oommen Chandy in 2011 assuring that the Thiruvambadi constituency will be returned to the Congress in the next election.

The letter also says about an agreement written on the interests of the Thamarassery diocese. A private news channel aired the details of the agreement between Mr Kunhalikkuty and Mr Oommen Chandy on Thursday.

As per the report the agreement was penned on March 30, 2011 at Kozhikode Guest House  two weeks before the last election to the state legislature. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and Thamarassery bishop Remegius Inchananiyil were witnesses of the meeting.

The diocese and the Malayora Vikasana Samithy allege that the announcement of candidature to the Thiruvambadi constituency by IUML on March 3 was in violation of the agreement.

However, the  IUML is unhappy with the new development. “I have written many letters to the chief minister and signed many agreements with him. If there are any issues between us we would sort it out, Mr  Kunhalikkutty said. As IUML has
already announced the candidature,  there is no scope for discussions on it, he added.
