Telangana: Separate state human rights commission needed, say PILs

Hyderabad: Two separate PILs have been moved before the Hyderabad High Court seeking to direct the governments of AP and TS to appoint chairman and members of State Human Rights Commission.

The AP Civil Liberties Association, represented by its General Secretary Potturi Suresh Kumar moved the PIL for appointment of AP State Human Rights Commission and Human Rights Protection Organisation represented by its joint secretary Ch. Jaya Prakash moved the PIL for TS Human Rights Commission.

Mr Kumar contended that the failure of the AP government to take steps to fill the vacancies in APSHRC was illegal. Jaya Prakash submitted that the existing body of the SHRC was not performing its functions and was causing irreparable hardships to the citizens of the state.
