Vocational subject must for CBSE class 10
If a candidate fails to clear any of the three electives that subject will be replaced by the vocational subject.
Hyderabad: The CBSE has made it mandatory for Class 10 students to study a vocational subject under the National Skills Qualifications Framework from 2017-18.
If a candidate fails to clear any of the three electives — Science, Social Science, and Mathematics — that subject will be replaced by the vocational subject. If candidates want to take the exam again in the subject they have failed, they can take the compartmental exam, the board said.
According to Panineeya Mahavidya principal D. Vasudha Rani, the board took this decision to replace the Comprehensive and Continuous Evaluation.
“Earlier, students could ignore the additional subject,” she said.
The CBSE will withdraw academic electives and vocational subjects from Class 12 from 2017-18. CBSE schools were told not to offer philosophy, creative writing and translation studies, graphic design, human rights and gender studies, theatre studies and library and information science as academic electives.
The CBSE dropped vocational subjects for Class 12 like poultry nutrition and physiology, poultry products and technology, foundry technology, management of dairy animals, milk marketing and dairy product technology. These subjects will be continued for students pursuing them in Class 11.
