Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation slammed for garbage pile up
Residents blame civic body for irregular collection.
Hyderabad: Residents of Narqi Phool Bagh in Chandrayangutta of Old City are outraged against the local civic authorities for not clearing garbage from the dump that has formed at the local playground. The residents point out that in the absence of proper collection of garbage from houses and inadequate number of garbage bins, some people are dumping the garbage in the playground. “The local sanitation workers are not clearing the garbage from the houses and as a result people are dumping it in the playground," pointed out Shaik Mohammed, a local resident.
Mr. Shaik had informed the GHMC and the Minister for Information and Technology, Mr. K T Rama Rao about this problem via Twitter. The locals complain that despite informing the local municipal officials, the problem persists. "Children avoid the playground as a foul smell emanates from the place. In addition, the residents living near the playground are facing problems as lots of rats and bandicoots make way to the garbage dump during the nights. The food disposed at the garbage dump attracts stray dogs as well," complained Khaja Pasha, another local resident.
Fahad Bin Abdul Samad Bin Abdat, Corporator, Uppuguda said, "Actually, the locals have broken down a portion of the wall of the playground and use a part of the ground as a road. While going to the houses or workplace, a few people dump the garbage at this spot. The GHMC staff clears it regularly," he informed the newspaper. He added that there is a proposal to construct a big wall again and fence it.
