Chennai: Compared to last year, Tamil Nadu students performed poorly in civil services  exams this year. Experts cite floods in Chennai as a reason for the dismal show by the state.

The UPSC released the civil services examination 2015 final results on Tuesday.
“The previous year, around 120 students from Tamil Nadu secured ranks in the civil service examinations. This year it has come down to 82,” said D.Shankar, director, Shankar IAS Academy.

“Most students have scored poorly in optional subjects such as public administration, geography and history. Chennai floods distracted the candidates as there was confusion regarding the main examinations,” he said.

The main exam was conducted from December 18 to 23. Of the 15,000 students who appeared, 855 were from Tamil Nadu. Of the 15,000 candidates, 2,797 were selected for interview or personality test. Totally, 1,078 candidates have been recommended for appointment to the services.
