Neet-2 in regional language, agrees Supreme Court
On Monday, Bench had refused to allow the states to admit students in government colleges on the basis of common entrance tests.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to examine a suggestion from the Centre to permit the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test to be conducted in July this year in six vernacular languages other than English and Hindi.
On Monday a three-judge bench headed by Justice Anil R. Dave had refused to allow the states to admit students in government colleges on the basis of common entrance tests either conducted or to be conducted and said admission for all seats will be only through Neet-2.
This morning, Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar brought to the notice of the court that his submission that Neet-2 should be held in six regional languages of Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Assamese, Bengali and Gujarati should be considered as a large number of students of State boards will take the examination.
He said in 2013 when Neet was first held, exam was held in these six languages other than English and Hindi and the court on its own included Urdu also. The same arrangement can be considered for this year, he said. Counsel for States and other colleges submitted that if the court was to modify yesterday's order, it should hear everyone. Justice Dave said the court will consider he request and pass appropriate orders.
