Chennai: Stating that the state government’s exchequer has been facing a huge revenue loss following recent order of Madras high court preventing the state from relocating or opening of Tasmac shops in the residential areas, the government has approached the court seeking to modify the order.

Additional advocate general Venkatramani  mentioned this before the summer vacation division bench comprising Justices K. Kalyanasundaram and S.M. Subramaniam on Thursday.

On May 8, the vacation bench comprising Justices N. Kirubakaran and V. Parthiban directed the state not to relocate or open Tasmac shops in villages or town or any local body or in its vicinity and ordered the authorities not to relocate or open Tasmac outlets wherever Grama Sabha passed resolution against setting up of the outlets.

The court also ordered police and authorities not to arrest peaceful protestors engaging in agitation against Tasmac shops, without causing inconvenience to the public.

Aggrieved by the order, the state government approached Madras High court to modify the order dated May 8. On hearing the plea from additional advocate general Venkatramani the bench directed the government to file a petition. The matter would be taken up for hearing soon.
