Hyderabad: Muslim youth of Amberpet have decided to keep a safe distance from the Iftaar parties hosted  by TRS leaders and the Wakf Board to express their dismay over the demolition of an abandoned mosque in the area which led to a rift between the two communities.

The deeply hurt youth are of the opinion that the Iftaar parties have lost its basic sense of communal harmony following the demolition. They alleged that workers from the TRS, the Hindu Vahini and the BJP were involved in objecting to local Muslims cleaning up the debris.

They contended that the reconstruction of the mosque was a dispute between the Muslim community and the GHMC, and no one else had a say.

Mr Muneer Ahmed Jaber of MCH Colony, Bagh Amberpet, said there was a need to maintain a spirit of harmony. Although Iftaar parties played a key role in bringing communities together, they had now become a political trend.

“Cases registered with the police and even video footage revealed that TRS workers were involved in the disturbances. That is why we have decided not to attend the iftaar parties hosted by TRS leaders and the Wakf Board,” he said.

Resident Abdullah Akber said, “Beyond political affiliation, we believe that iftaar parties these days are no more than nonsensical political gimmicks. We are upset that politicians had an underlying motive to participate in the demolition. To add to our woes, the demolition has caused a rupture between two communities.”
