Hyderabad: Sikhs community to hold mass marriages
On Sunday, ‘Anand Karaj’, the solemnising of the marriages, would be performed at 11.30 am.
Hyderabad: The Sikh community in the state is going to perform ‘Samuhik Vivaha Samagam’, in which 21 couples would be married for free of cost on Sunday. The venue for the mass marriages would be Guru Gobind Singhji Sports Ground, Ameerpet, Hyderabad.
On Sunday, the main function ‘Anand Karaj’, the solemnising of the marriages, would be performed at 11.30 am. The couples would also take four rounds around Guru Granth Sahibji, an important formality for declaring the marriage as legal. “Prior to the marriage, a colourful barat of 21 bridegrooms will be taken out on horses along with band party from Ameerpet,” said a member from Prabandhak committee.
The Prabandhak committee president, S. Bhagender Singh and general secretary, S. Surender Singh told this newspaper that, “In view that many Sikh families who cannot afford to perform marriages that requires expenditure running into lakhs, this event would be useful and in addition, house articles such as utensils and others would also be provided by respective Prabhandak committees.”
