Telangana High Court rejects plea by theatre owners to fix ticket rates
Justice Chauhan directed the police commissioners of respective areas to decide on the petitioner’s applications by May 16.
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Friday rejected the pleas of cinema theatre managements to direct the state government or allow them to hike ticket rates for the recently released Mahesh Babu starrer movie Maharshi.
A vacation court comprising Acting Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan took announced the decision while dealing with petitions filed by the managements of Cinepolis Group, Noma Group, PVR Group and several other theatres. Stating that theaters must follow the State Cinemas (Regulation) Act and that the government has the power to decide to protect consumers’ rights, Justice Chauhan directed the police commissioners of respective areas to decide on the petitioner’s applications by May 16.
