Karnataka High Court upholds Om Prakash's appointment
The court took into account the recent amendment to the Karnataka Police Act on the selection process for DG&IGP.
BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Friday upheld the order of the state government appointing Om Prakash as DG&IGP, while dismissing a petition filed by Sushanth Mahapatra, an IPS officer, who had challenged the appointment. The court took into account the recent amendment to the Karnataka Police Act on the selection process for DG&IGP, which allows the government to select one among the DGs for the top post.
Mr Mahapatra had challenged Mr Om Prakash’s promotion on the ground that seniority was overlooked while making the appointment, and that an error was committed in the procedure to be followed while making the appointment to the top post by not consulting the Union Public Service.
School fee details sought: The High Court on Friday sought to know the amount of fees being collected by private educational institutions and the reason behind such high fees. The court was hearing a petition filed by several students questioning the excess fee being collected by private schools. They have alleged that schools were violating Karnataka Education Act 1983 and Karnataka Education Institutions (Regulation of certain fees and donations) Rules, 1999 by collecting excess fee.
