Chennai: Driver held by gang for Rs 2 lakh dues rescued
Man had taken lease amount to hire a car.
Chennai: In a shocking incident near Tambaram, the owner of a travel agency, his partners and employees abducted a car driver who had failed to settle the lease amount for a car that he had hired. However, the Selaiyur police managed to rescue the abducted driver within hours.
According to the police, the victim, Syed Mohammed Sabeer (32) of Selaiyur near Tambaram is a driver and he had leased a car from Samuel Ebenezer (37) of Thirumullaivoyal who runs a travel agency. “It is said that Syed Mohammed Sabeer had failed to pay '2 lakh lease amount to Samuel and he refused to respond to phone calls too. Irked by this, Samuel and his friends hatched a plan to get the money,” the police said.
On Saturday night, Samuel, his partners Ganesamurthy (53), Saravanan (46), drivers Abdul Durai (35), Jayaprakash (28), Mohammed Ali (35) and Mohammed Sadab (28) went to Syed’s house in two cars and asked him to settle the pending dues. “After a heated argument, Samuel and his allies allegedly attacked and dragged Sabeer out of the house. Although Sabeer’s mother Begum (60) tried to save her son, they took the cars and left the place with the victim. They also took the car leased out to Sabeer,” the police added.
Terrified by the incident, Begum alerted Selaiyur police. Meanwhile, at around 11.30 pm, the abductors called Begum on her phone and demanded that she hand over Rs 2 lakh. They threatened that they would kill Sabeer if she did not pay the money.
Begum again informed the police who immediately formed a special team. The police traced mobile phone used by the abductors to a room in Anna Nagar and cops surrounded the room by 1.30 am on Sunday. Sabeer was then rescued and the seven abductors were arrested and sent to judicial custody.
