218 new COVID-19 positive cases detected in Andhra Pradesh

A significant number of them are returnees from abroad or other places in India

Vijayawada: A total of 218 Covid-19 cases were reported in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. They include 136 locals, 56 foreign returnees and 26 from other states. The toll rose to 78 with a person from East Godavari succumbing to the disease.

According to the health department, the number of positive cases rose to 5,247 as 4,126 cases were reported from districts along with 188 foreign returnees and 933 from other states. Of the total cases, 2,475 were discharged while 1,573 were in hospital. Cumulative positive cases from foreign returnees were 188 and of them 170 are active. Cumulative positive cases from other states were 933 and of them 557 are active.

In Kadapa district, 42 new cases were reported taking the tally to 288. Of the new infections, 18 were Kuwait returnees, 12 from Jammalamadugu, 12 from Navabupeta, six from Proddutur, four from Kadapa and one each from Chinthakomma Dimme and Rajupalem.

In Nellore district, 13 new infections were reported from Chejerla, Kota, Udayagiri, Gudur, Naidupeta, Sullurpeta and Venkachalam mandal raising the tally to 355. The new infections include one each from West Godavari and Bihar. Thirteen patients were discharged on Wednesday while 10, including a child, seven women and two men were discharged.

In Guntur district, nine new cases were reported--one each from returnees of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh and two each from Hyderabad, Tadepalli and Tenali.
