Andhra Pradesh, Telangana get targets for biogas
The Centre is pushing for biogas plants to protect households from indoor air pollution and saving on cost of refilling of LPG cylinders.
Hyderabad: The Centre is giving administrative sanction to set up family-type biogas plants under the National Biogas and Manure Management Programme and has fixed the targets for the TS and AP governments.
According to this, TS is to build 4,100 biogas units this financial year, and AP 6,030. The Centre is pushing for biogas plants to protect households from indoor air pollution and saving on cost of refilling of LPG cylinders. This is mostly meant for rural and semi-urban areas.
A family type biogas plant generates biogas from organic substances such as cattle dung and other bio-degradable materials such as biomass from farms, gardens, kitchens and night soil.
The family type biogas plants have a capacity of 1 to 6 cubic metres a day. In AP and TS, the Centre is offering a subsidy of Rs 7000 per cubic metre for SC/ST families and Rs 11,000 for 2-6 cubic metre plants. For the others, the subsidy is Rs 5,500 per cubic metre and Rs 9,000 for 2-6 cubic metre meter biogas plants. Additional subsidy to the tune of Rs 1,200 will be given for toilet linked per biogas plant.
