Chennai: German national Steffan Kaggrah and his wife Janin have been crisscrossing Chennai distributing leaflets, fuelling WhatsApp campaigns, meeting media persons, visiting numerous veterinary hospitals and pet shops to trace Luke, their dog that was stolen from Marina beach on Saturday.

“We picked Luke in Greece at the Western beach in June this year when he was sitting helpless under a car. From then, he became a part of us,” said Janin.
It is learnt that the dog once saved them from a snake attack and brought them together when they got lost in a snow storm.

The couple had been on a vacation from Germany to Europe and Asia since February,  and arrived in Chennai on Friday. The next day, when they went to visit Marina, the dog was tied outside the van to get some fresh air and they were inside. To the dismay of the couple, somebody cut the dog’s collarand took him away in an autorickshaw”.

Steffan Kaggrah  the police were not  helpful, saying there were no CCTV cameras in the area. “Luke is very cheerful and was always comfortable around strangers. We wish it is safe and being fed,” he said fighting back tears.

During the search for Luke, initially the couple nev-er gave out all its features for identification as they did not want to receive ho-ax calls with people claim-ing money. Now, the pictu-res of the dog are all over the Internet.

The couple has cancelled their plans to visit Sri Lanka and would stay in Chennai looking for Luke till their visa expires in August.
