Visakhapatnam: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Vizag land scams has received 852 complaints so far, Commissioner of Police, Visakhapatnam, T. Yoganand told reporters on Monday.  “Of the total complaints, 374 are related to disputes between two private parties, 249 are about officials’ negligence, 199 is related to encroachment and 30 on disputed sites,” he said.

The three-member SIT consists of DIG (Greyhounds) Vineet Brijlal, Joint Collector of Visakhapatnam G. Srijana and Deputy Executive Officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Lanka Vijay Sarathi.

Vineet Brijlal said the complaints were being segregated and transferred to the respective revenue departments for further inquiry and the main focus is to inquire and identify persons who have committed tampering of land records to benefit land sharks.

The SIT began its inquiry process on June 28 and of the complaints received so far, about 164 pertain to tampering of land records and most of the lands in question were located in Vizag (rural), Gajuwaka and Bheemunipatnam.

When asked about the tampering, Mr Vineet told media that it was too early to say and the inquiry process was on. Mr. Yoganand has issued a letter to most of the politicians to not to speak to media as it could hamper the inquiry procedure.

“If the leaders have anything to say, they can approach the SIT and give information. For the general public, the SIT will receive complaints till July 15 and leaders of political parties can approach the SIT till July 20,” Mr Yoganand said.

The SIT office has been set up at the district collectorate and will function from 10.30 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm on all week days.

People can contact the SIT through email sitlandvsp@gmail.com or WhatsApp 9701520033 or toll free number 180042500002 or landline 0891-2735665 or 2735606. According to Mr Vineet Brijlal, if any complainant does not want to disclose his or her identity, the SIT would keep it secret.
