Hyderabad High Court directs Telangana govt to place action plan for Musi river

The bench said that they are more concerned about the cleaning of the river and not the beautification.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Telangana state government to place a plan of action explaining the steps being taken for cleaning of the river Musi and the beautification of its surroundings.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil Bhaskaran Nair Radhakrishnan and Justice Ramesh Ranganathan was dealing with the PIL by Forum for Good Governance represented by M. Padmanabha Reddy, seeking to declare the  non-compliance and lack of interest of the respondent government in taking up of the cleaning river Musi.

Ms B. Rachana Reddy, counsel, appearing for the petitioner, said holistic plan of action and the steps are required to fulfilling the task of cleaning up of the river, as the pollution has reached dangerous levels exposing people of the twin cities to severe health hazards. The bench said that they are more concerned about the cleaning of the river and not the beautification. 

Mr. Y. Rama Rao, counsel for the HMDA, said told the court that the state government has prepared a plan for cleaning of the river and taking steps as per the plan.

The bench adjourned the case to next week.
