Hyderabad: ACB arrests revenue officer for Rs 8 lakh bribe

The first instalment of the bribe of Rs 4 lakh was collected though Antaiah in the tahsildar’s office.

Hyderabad: The sleuths of Anti Corruption Bureau arrested village revenue officer M. Antaiah serving at Kondurgu mandal in Ranga Reddy for accepting a bribe of Rs 8 lakh. The ACB is probing the role of Keshampet tahsildar V. Lavanya in the case.

According to the ACB, Antaiah is Lavanya’s conduit. The agency alleged that Lavanya through Antaiah demanded the Rs 8 lakh bribe from one Mamidipally Bhaskar to update the online record of his land admeasuring 9.07 acres.

The first instalment of the bribe of Rs 4 lakh was collected though Antaiah in the tahsildar’s office. The ACB alleged that of the Rs 8 lakh, Rs 5 lakh was meant for Lavanya and the rest for Antaiah.

Antaiah had earlier demanded bribe of Rs 30,000 for handing over the passbook. The ACB has arrested Antaiah and the role of Lavanya is under investigation.

Lavanya’s husband is stated to be an officer with the GHMC. ACB officials later raided Lavanya’s house and found `90 lakh in cash and 400 grams gold.
