Hyderabad: After installing bollards near Gulzar Houz and Mecca Masjid, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to close the roads leading from the iconic Charminar to Laad Bazar and Sardar Mahal.
The civic body has already fixed bollards near Gulzar Houz and is now installing them near Mecca Masjid. Officials of the corporation claimed that the GHMC would fix 125 permanent bollards and 28 automated hydraulic bollards on the roads leading to Laad Bazar and Sardar Mahal within six weeks.
A senior official of the corporation said that the GHMC has started fixing bollards near the iconic structure. These bollards will permanently block the movement of vehicles within a 200-metre radius from the structure. He said that the civic body would complete fixing bollards, which were procured at the cost of `23.8 crore, by the end of August. He said that the automated hydraulic bollards, which will be fixed on all four sides of the iconic structure, will be operated during the movement of VIP and VVIP vehicles. The remaining bollards will be fixed permanently.
“Bollards will be fixed near Gulzar Houz and Mecca Masjid in the first phase and on the Laad Bazar and Sardar Mahal stretch in the second phase. More of them will be installed in bylanes in the final phase. Issues pertaining to the displacement of vendors and hawkers will be taken up after fixing the bollards and regulating the traffic,” the official added.
The corporation has decided to shift hawkers to Puranapul for the time being and later to the new bridge which is to be constructed near Salar Jung Museum.
