Army launches massive search operation along LoC after failed infiltration bid

SRINAGAR: The Army on Monday launched a massive search operation following a failed infiltration bid by militants in the Nowshera sector of the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district.

The defence sources in Jammu said that a group of suspected militants attempted to sneak into the Nowshera sector from PoJK. “After noticing the suspected activity near the LoC, the alert Army troops swung into action and fired a few rounds to deter any attempt to breach the fence,” the sources said.

It is not yet clear if a clash has taken place between those attempting to infiltrate into J&K and the Army troops but the police sources in Rajouri said that a massive search operation is underway in a vast area of the LoC. “The operation in which the J&K police is helping the Army is necessarily meant to ensure that no terrorists have succeeded in sneaking into the area from across the LoC,” said a police official.

However, local media reported that infiltration by a group of militants or narcotic smugglers might have taken place in the area overnight following which the Army launched the search operations.
