CGST team raids Telugu Desam MP Sambasiva Rao's offices
It may be noted that the raids have been carried out at a time when the TD is at loggerheads with its old political ally.
Hyderabad: Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) sleuths carried out raids against TD MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao’s corporate offices in Hyderabad, suspecting large-scale tax evasion. It may be noted that the raids have been carried out at a time when the TD is at loggerheads with its old political ally.
The TD leader owns Transstroy (India) Limited, an engineering and construction company that bagged the multi crore Polavaram Project in Andhra Pradesh in 2012 and has its corporate offices located in Begumpet and Kamalapuri colony of Hyderabad. It is to be noted that the raids have been carried out at a time when the TD is at loggerheads with its old political ally. Also it comes after the TD Rajya members voted for the Congress candidate in the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman elections which was held on Thursday.
The MP confirmed the raids to Deccan Chronicle and said there was no direction to pay GST and his employees were caught unawares when the searches took place. When DC contacted the head of the Transstroy company, the officer refused to give out details. The Transstroy Company bagged the tender in 2012 by quoting 14 percent of the total project cost of Rs 4,717 crore. A former member of the Rajya Sabha, Rayapati Sambasiva Rao was elected from the Narasaraopet assembly constituency, AP on TD ticket. He was formally with the Congress party.
