Karnataka High Court quashes govt order on Gokarna temple

The court quashed the order stating that the state has no power to do so and that order passes is illegal and arbitrary.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Friday quashed the state government order, dated August 12, 2008, denotifying Gokarna Mahabaleshwara temple from the control of Department of Muzrai and attaching or handing it over its administration to Ramachandrapura Math.

The court quashed the order stating that the state has no power to do so and that order passes is illegal and arbitrary.

The court also ordered constituting an overseeing committee in this regard which will come into effect from Sept 10.

Further, the committee headed by the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner has been directed to collect inventory details of movable assets and bank records of the temple and submit it before the court in two weeks time.
