Madras high court issues warning to Tamil Nadu, Pondy education secretaries
Authorities have moved an appeal against the order of this court, which prohibited books from private publishers.
Chennai: The Madras high court has warned that education secretaries of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry would be summoned to the court if they do not respond to a circular issued by the Union ministry of human resource development instructing them to implement NCERT guideline prohibiting home works to class I and II of CBSE schools.
Justice N. Kirubakaran, before whom a petition filed by advocate M. Purushothaman came up for hearing on Friday, passed the direction. The petitioner Purushothaman has submitted that there is a nexus between the private book publishers, CBSE authorities and private CBSE schools. Authorities have moved an appeal against the order of this court, which prohibited books from private publishers.
The authorities will only help the book mafia.Highlighting poor quality of the books published by private publishers, Purushothaman submitted a copy of the general knowledge book prescribed by a private CBSE school in the city for Class II.
He said there is an exercise in the book where children have to identify picture of famous film personalities including Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. What general knowledge they try to inculcate by giving such exercise, he asked.
The court directed that the secretary of CBSE should appear before the court if the circular is not issued August 17. The court also directed the appearance of education secretaries of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry if they fail to respond to a circular issued by the Union government in connection with the no home work rule by August 17.
