No alliance for polls in Mysuru City Corporation elections
The counting will be held on September 3.
Mysuru: Coalition partners in the government, the Congress and JD (S), plan to take on each other in the Mysuru City Corporation elections scheduled for August 31. They will not tie-up for the elections to the three municipal councils of T Narsipura, Periyapatna and HD Kote to be held on August 29 either. “While there will be no pre- poll alliance between the Congress and JD(S) for these elections, they could join hands if need be after the results are declared,” said Mr Seetharam B V, a Congress leader.
The BJP , which also plans to contest these urban body elections, is holding a meeting of its MLAs , MPs and other leaders on Saturday to come up with a road map for the polls. “We plan to choose people- friendly, winnable candidates based on their experience and work. The conflict between the Congress and JD (S) will help us win a greater number of seats,” said BJP city president, Dr B H Manjunath, declaring that the party would win at least 35 seats in Mysuru city alone.
The BJP and JD(S) had joined hands in the last elections to the MCC and the Dal came to power independently in H D Kote. The Congress rules in T Narsipur presently. While August 20 is the last date for withdrawing of nominations for the local body elections of T Narsipura, Periyapatna and HD Kote, August 17 is the last date for filing of nominations for the Mysuru city corporation poll, and August 23 the last date for withdrawing of nominations. The counting will be held on September 3.
