Cardiologists’ meeting begins in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: Interventional cardiologists across the state began their 17th annual scientific conference here on Saturday urging collective and decisive action for surveillance, prevention and management CVD mortality and disability.
The meeting, organised by Interventional Cardiology Council of Kerala (ICCK), is discussing advanced catheter-based intervention techniques and their optimisation for treatment of heart diseases like heart attacks, congenital defects of heart and blocks in blood vessels.
Inaugurating the conference, Dr. A. George Koshy, president ICCK, said that minimally invasive catheter-based treatment has evolved as the standard treatment option for acute heart attack worldwide.

The State has registered remarkable progress in gaining and embracing all internationally approved latest treatment technologies for cardiac ailments, Dr Harikrishnan, organizing secretary and professor of Cardiology, SCTIMST said. With more than 120 advanced cardiac catheterisation labs for treating complex heart ailments, the state population has access to cathlab facility in 20 minutes time, in all districts except some hilly areas.
