THANJAVUR: It was an emotional reunion for five-year-old Tharun, who was in the custody of Thanjavur Child Welfare Committee and his mother Vasanthi of Meenakshipuram near Pollachi, here on Friday.

Vasanthi said that she and her mother Lakshmi noted the information in social media (Facebook) that Tharun is in the custody of Thanjavur child welfare committee, given by Ms. C.Thilakavathi, chairperson of the committee to press and social media.

"So we came here and met our child," she said. Tharun on seeing his mother ran and hugged her with deep affection. After confirming that Vasanthi is the mother of Tharun, child welfare committee handed him over to Vasanthi.

It may be recalled that a woman with four children was seeking alms at Karur railway station a fortnight back. On knowing about this, the child welfare committee, Karur rescued the four children and handed them over to child welfare committee, Thanjavur. The committee members based on information given by one boy, identified the father of three children who belong to Madurai and through child welfare committee, Madurai, handed over the three kids to their parents.

But they could not locate the parents of Tharun (5). Thilakavathi made an appeal through media to the parents to come and take back their child.

Vasanthi told presspersons that her husband Suresh had also married her sister Chitra. They had four children.

Suresh, often prone to consuming liquor, rather carelessly lost Tharun at Pollachi bus stand in November, 2018.

"Suresh came home and informed us (Vasanthi and others) that he lost Tharun at Pollachi bus stand... Since then we have been searching for him. We got him back through social media and Thanjavur child welfare committee.

We are thankful to both", Vasanthi said.
