Guntur: Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) officials conducted raids on meat shops to check illegal slaughtering of animals. GMC health officers war-ned the owners against illegal slaughter and asked them to slaughter healthy animals only at the GMC slaughterhouse.

GMC commissioner Ch. Anuradha formed special teams to conducted the raids against unauthorised mutton, chicken and fish shops for the second day on Sunday in Guntur city.

The special teams, led by sanitary inspectors Ayub Khan and Venkates-wara Rao, conducted checks in Pattabhipuram, Gujjanagundla, Stabhala-garuvu, AT Agraharam, Housing Board colony, Amaravati road, Goran-tla, Railpeta, Kothapeta, Ponnur road, Bararimam Panja, Sangadigunta, Lanchestor road and SR Colony in the city.

GMC officials found slaughtering of animals locally and sold without GMC stamp. 

They mentioned that ill and unhealthy animals cannot be used for slaughtering purposes as the meat of those animals would cause health related issues. They said that GMC health officer will check the animal and would put GMC stamp on the meat.

Selling meat without the GMC stamp is illegal, they were reminded. Officials imposed Rs 6,800 as penalty to the norms violating meat and chicken shops.

Ms Anuradha, said that slaughtering of animals in the abattoir is a must, GMC would continue the checks on meat shops and directed the shops to follow norms to avoid penalty and stern action.
