161 acre scam suspected near coastal corridor in Nellore

Tirupati: A 161-acre land scam worth nearly Rs 30 crore was identified near the proposed coastal corridor in the industrial zone in Momidi in Chillakur mandal of Nellore district.
Some youth at Varagali in Chillakur mandal of Nellore district said the ceiling land was allegedly transferred to the names of well connected persons through forged documents.
The villagers approached collector Mutyalaraju along with the purported forged documents on Friday complaining that some persons, identified as V. Sarath Kumar Reddy, Bharath Kumar Reddy, Sridhar Reddy, Murali Mohan Reddy, and two women had registered 161 acres of ceiling land and were trying to sell it.
They also alleged that local revenue officers and staff of the sub-registrar office were hand in glove with these persons.
Mr Mutyalaraju ordered revenue officials to inquire and take necessary action.
The land was surrendered in 1975 as they fell foul of the limits placed by the Land Ceiling Act. The land value has increased as it is in proximity to the proposed coastal corridor and comes under industrial zone.
Mr Mutyalaraju told this newspaper, “Some locals approached me two days ago on the matter. I have ordered an inquiry. The revenue divisional officer of Gudur has been appointed inquiry officer. I have instructed the officer to file a report in a week.”
