Hyderabad: Notice to 7 hospitals on polio vaccine

A type 2 vaccine-derived polio virus was isolated from Amberpet and Nagole drains on August 28 by an environment surveillance team.

Hyderabad: A hospital, a clinic, three nursing homes, a diagnostic centre and a pharmacy of Hyderabad were issued notices by the District Medical and Health department on Monday for possessing the prohibited trivalent Oral Polio Vaccine (tOPV). The insitutions are Kaaba hospital, Masab Tank, Pushpa maternity home, Malakpet, Khatija nursing home, Sitaram Pottdar clinic, Chelapura, Anveshi medical and general stores, Amberpet, Lucid Diagnostics, Karkhana and Kirtana Clinic, Warasiguda.

A type 2 vaccine-derived polio virus was isolated from Amberpet and Nagole drains on August 28 by an environment surveillance team after the earlier case of a virus having been discovered in May in the Amberpet drain.

After the first cases of finding a type-2 vaccine-derived virus in the drain, around three lakh children were immunised through tOPV in a special drive.

However, after the second time the virus was found in the two drains, government officials decided to conduct raids to find out where the tOPV was still being used
