Accused in doctor murder case sent to judicial custody

According to prosecution on September 14, 2013, Dr Subbiah was hacked outside his workplace in Raja Annamalai Puram by an unidentified gang.

After coming out on bail, they were allegedly threatening key witnesses in the murder case.

Chennai: The VII additional sessions court, Chennai,  sent two prime accused in sensational murder of well-known neurosurgeon Dr S.D. Subbiah, to judicial custody on Wednesday. After coming out on bail, they were allegedly threatening key witnesses in the murder case.

According to prosecution on September 14, 2013, Dr Subbiah was hacked outside his workplace in Raja Annamalai Puram by an unidentified gang. Nine days later, the doctor succumbed to grievous injuries. The video clippings of the brutal murder were widely circulated on the media.  Following preliminary investigation police identified that he was murdered over a land dispute with Ponnusamy of Kanyakumari.  The police arrested 10 persons - Ponnusamy, his wife Mary Pusham, their sons - advocate Basil and Boris of Kanyakumari, advocate William, Yesurajan, a Kabadi Player, Dr James Sathiskumar, Murugan, Selvaprakash and Ayyappan. Ponnusamy promised to give half of the sale proceeds of dispute property if Subbiah was done to death. Selvaprakash, Murugan and Ayyappan of Kanyakumari district were working under a Kanyakumari medical practitioner, who was known to Basil and his family members.

Special public prosecutor N. Vijayraj said the key conspirator in murder were Basil, and his brother Boris, a cargo staff member with an international airline. Basil and Boris, related to the doctor, had allegedly ordered the murder following a long-standing dispute over a 2.4 acre plot of land in Anjugrammam near Kanyakumari owned by Dr Subbiah.

Over the years 11 witnesses have deposed before VII additional sessions court in connection with the murder. Under this circumstance prime accused Basil and Yesurajan, who were released on bail, were threatening the witnesses.
