Kakinada: After the reorganisation of districts in AP, the government is planning to set up district courts in each of the newly formed districts.

Many bar associations, in particular from erstwhile East and West Godavari districts, have been waiting for the new courts as their burden on transport etc can be reduced.

The AP High Court has given a direction to the lower courts to submit a report on the details of pending cases and its severity before Oct 13. Meanwhile the bar associations are seeking some courts in their respective courts.

Ramachandrapuram bar association pleaded for the setting up an additional district court there. The advocates of the bar association have been pleading for the court for the past 20 years. In 2019, the bar association submitted a representation to the chief minister Jagan Reddy, seeking an additional district court in Ramachandrapuram.

Later, the HV directed the state government to set up the court and release '1.60 crore for construction of the building and recruit 31 personnel and a district judge. But due to the covid-19 pandemic, the courts remained closed for two years.

“The Ramachandrapuram court is one of the courts having a large number of pendency of cases in the erstwhile district. If the litigants go to court there, they have to trudge 70km and they are not able to attend the court in time and the cases are losing their merits due to the delay factor.

After the bar association submitted representation to the government, additional district courts were sanctioned in Amalapuram, Pithapuram and Peddapuram. During the YSRC government’s term, a court has been sanctioned. Now it should materialize,” said bar association general secretary Sai Prasad.

The bar association submitted a representation to the principal district judge in Rajamahendravaram on Tuesday, seeking the setting up of the additional district court in Ramachandrapuram.

Kakinada bar association president Visweswara Rao said SC, ST court, NDPS courts etc should be set up in Kakinada. AP bar council member Muppalla Subbarao said the POCSO court, CID court etc should be set up in Rajamahendravaram.

Former Bhimavaram bar association president Yeleti Yohan said the SC, ST court, NDPS, POCSO, additional sub-court, designator court etc should be set up in Bhimavaram.
