New Delhi: Like millions across the country, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Friday stepped out of his residence to exchange his old notes and was seen taking selfies with people who were waiting outside a branch of State Bank of India (SBI) at Parliament Street in the national capital.

“I have come here to exchange Rs 4000 and will stand with the people who are suffering here,” Rahul told reporters outside the bank.

Rahul attacked the Modi-led government over it decision to demonetise Rs 500 and 1000 notes and said it was only causing a lot of problems for the common man.

“Can you see anybody dressed in suit boot here, everybody here is a common man who is vexed, but the Modi government is absolutely indifferent to their plight,” Rahul said, repeating his often used ‘suit-boot’ jibe.

BJP leaders hit back at the Gandhi scion, accusing him of playing to the gallery and only adding to the chaos at the bank.

Since the announcement of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, long queues have been witnessed outside the banks and ATMs with people desperately trying to exchange their old notes with new ones.

On the second consecutive day, Delhiites found it difficult in paying for household items, essential commodities and vegetables as they ran out of savings of small currencies. To manage anxious crowd, as many as 3,400 personnel of paramilitary and Delhi Police, along with 200 quick reaction teams, have been deployed at ATMs and banks across the national capital.
