Hyderabad: BJP state president Dr K. Laxman dubbed Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s statement that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had supported reservations for Mus-lims as “incorrect, absurd and baseless.”

Dr Laxman said the statement was ,made only with a view to deceiving the people.

Speaking to mediapersons on Friday, he said that Mr Rao had claimed that Mr Modi had supported the reservations but at the same time stated that the government would will fight for the issue in Parliament and approach the Supreme Court and said this was contradictory.

He said it was clearly mentioned in the Constitution that there was no scope for reservations on the basis of religion. “But both the TRS and Congress were acting in a manner that was contrary to the spirit of the Constitution only for vote-bank politics.” He said the BJP was opposed to the resolution passed to increase religious reservations from four to 12 per cent.

He said the people were dynamic and would teach a lesson to parties who praise the Nizam.  “It is for sure that they will reject the TRS, Congress and the MIM,” Dr Laxman said.

He saw in MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, who was critical of Mr Rao a couple of months back, showered praises on the Chief Minister in the Assembly, evidence of a ‘quid pro quo’ understanding between them.
