Kerala High Court orders KWA chief's arrest for contempt
The court, however, said the petitioner is entitled for bail and the bail amount has been fixed at Rs 25,000.
Kochi: A division bench of the Kerala High Court on Friday has ordered the arrest of Kerala Water Authority managing director Shainamol and to present her in the court at 10.15 am on Monday in connection with a contempt of court case. The division bench headed by acting chief justice Antony Dominic and Justice Dama Shes-hadri Naidu rejected the petition filed by Shain-amol seeking exemption from personal appearance in the court.
The court, however, said the petitioner is entitled for bail and the bail amount has been fixed at Rs 25,000. Counsel for KWA has informed the court on Thursday that the MD will be present on Friday when the matter came for hearing. However, when the court considered the case on Friday the official was not present and the court took objection to this and ordered that the MD be arrested.
The contempt plea was filed by Projects India Ltd in connection with the revised amount for a project of the KWA. A single bench of the HC had ordered for payment of additional charges for the contract. An appeal filed by the KWA against the single bench was rejected by a division bench.
The KWA MD, however, has pointed out that there was no provision for additional charges in the contract and declined to uphold the HC verdict. The complainant has approached the HC with the contempt plea following the refusal of the MD to implement the court order.
