Traffic briefly disrupted as train derails near Krishnagiri
According to witnesses, one wheel of the train jumped the rails while negotiating a curve at the place.
KRISHNAGIRI: A passenger train bound for Karaikal from Bengaluru, derailed at Kadusettipatti village, between Rayakottai and Marandahall railway stations here on Sunday morning, briefly disrupting rail traffic on the line.
The derailment was reported around 9:30 am on Sunday after the train crossed Rayakottai railway station and was heading towards Marandahalli.
According to witnesses, one wheel of the train jumped the rails while negotiating a curve at the place.
The alert loco pilot immediately stopped the train on time and subsequent derailment of the bogies was avoided. Sources also said that the train was moving at a very low speed when the mishap occurred.
No injuries or casualty to passengers who were travelling in the train was reported.
The railway authorities inspected the spot and have launched investigations into the mishap. They also denied the sabotage claim of the people using the train daily.
The passenger train resumed its service five hours after the derailment.
Other trains bound for Bengaluru via Hosur was diverted through a different route to reach Bengaluru in neighbouring Karnataka.
In an earlier accident that happened in 2015, the Bengaluru - Ernakulam express train derailed in the same route at Bidirikere, between Annekal and Hosur railway stations. The bogies collided one after another as the train stopped abruptly due to the derailment of a compartment.
Nine people had died in the mishap and the bodies were later retrieved from the damaged coaches with great difficulty.
