Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will focus on cell towers across the city to generate revenues. The civic body has been losing revenue from cell towers, while in other cities like Vijayawada telecom companies have been paying a 30 per cent income generated from cell towers.
Mayor Bonthu Ram-mohan has instructed officials to focus on how to enhance revenues from cell towers and install them on civic body's properties and vacant lands.

The mayor has asked the corporation to study the revenue generation method from other cities. He also said that the GHMC has been collecting tax from a mere 500 cell towers when there are more than 2,500 towers in the city.

He asked the officials to set up cell towers at 1,300 community halls, 600 parks and 3,000 vacant lands as the civic body was facing resistance from the public to install them on rooftops.

Rammohan has also asked officials to chalk out plans to avoid elevator-related accidents.
