Subways shut down, GHMC is clueless
Surprisingly, GHMC officials don't even know why these subways have vanished.
Hyderabad: The subways at RTC crossroads and Koti were once widely used by pedestrians seeking relief from traffic. But they have slowly become absolutely useless.
Surprisingly, GHMC officials don’t even know why these subways have vanished. Hawkers have filled the entrances of the subways making it impossible for people to enter.
Mr. Surya Kumar, an estate officer from the GHMC said: “The Koti subway was allotted to a few bookshops because they were vacated from the main road. But we don’t know why the subway at RTC crossroads was shut down.” Mr Indra Kumar, a book stall owner at RTC X roads said: “The subway was shut down because the government was unable to maintain it. The city authorities at the time of shutting down the subway had said that nobody uses it anymore. But they were lying. Many people were using it when it was open. Suddenly, there were forced to use the zebra crossing nearby.
The subway at the RTC X roads was mostly being used by students, to visit the Chikadpally library. The one at Koti was also being used by students from the nearby Women’s College. But with the shutdown of these subways, students and officegoers are forced to cross the high-density, congested junctions.
