Amballoor electronic park to be eco-friendly
15 out of 100 acres of the project at Amballoor to be used for digging big ponds.
KOCHI: The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) has proposed a unique concept for the implementation of the much delayed Amballoor Electronics Park in the most eco-friendly way.
The 15 acres of the total 100 acres required for the project, will be exclusively used for digging big ponds which can be used as water sources for the entire village. Red earth from digging the ponds, spread across 3 to 4 acres, will be used for land filling at the project site.
This is for the first time that KSIDC is proposing such a concept which can be replicated for other project sites situated near wetlands, paddy fields and marshy areas.
K.G Ajith Kumar, general manager, KSIDC told DC that the agency had made all possible efforts to minimize the impact on the environment.
“Our objective is not to make any geological changes in the area which has a well networked natural drainage system and water sources. The nearby Konothu Puzha will be deepened and the dredged out soil can be used for land filling. KSIDC proposed to avoid taking red earth for filling the project site,” he said.
Amballoor is located on the Ernakulam- Thalayolaparambu main road and the project site is a marshy area full of weeds. Green experts have raised apprehensions over filling of the marshy area. Legal hurdles in land acquisition have also dragged the project for more than three years.
