Karimnagar: Authority formed to develop temple

KCR is chairman of VADA; Rs 100 cr to be released.

KARIMNAGAR: The historic Sri Raja Rajeswara Swamy Devasthanam (SRRD) is set to see a remarkable growth soon. The state government, on Thursday, issued an order forming the much-awaited  Vemulawada Area Development Autho-rity (VADA).

A sum of Rs100 crore would also be released for taking up the proposed development works at the shrine this year, the order said.

On June 18, 2015, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, during his visit to the temple, said a committee would be formed for developing basic amenities at the temple and that Rs 400 crore would be released in four years for taking up the works.

He said the shrine would undergo a complete makeover. He had criticised the previous governments for neglecting the development of the temple in united AP.

Mr Chandrasekhar Rao is the chairman of VADA, while former IAS officer M. Purushotham Reddy has been appointed as CEO and vice-chairman.

IT minister K. Taraka Rama Rao, Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar, Vemula-wada MLA Ch. Ramesh Babu, principal secretaries of endowments, municipal and finance departments, and director of planning commission, collector, superintendent of police and district forest officer are members of the panel.

Speaking to reporters at Vemula-wada on Thursday, Mr. Ramesh Babu said that works would be taken up after consulting pontiffs of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham of Karnataka.

Another Prakaram (compound wall) would be erected at a cost of Rs 25 crore. The holy pond in the temple would be renovated. New choultries would be built, he said.
