Water bottles thrown at Telangana Home Minister
His comments provoked an uproar from the audience, and some of the more agitated people began throwing water bottles towards the stage.
WARANGAL: Home minister Nayini Narasimha Reddy, who was in Warangal to attend the Kakatiya Redla Shankaravam on Sunday, had an unpleasant experience when people began throwing water bottles at him during his speech.
The public meeting was organised by the Telangana Reddy Associations JAC at the Kakatiya University Arts and Science College ground to press for the implementation of welfare measures for the community.
Mr Narasimha Reddy, during his speech, addressed the issue of reservations for poorer sections of the community and said that such a facility could not be provided as it would be unconstitutional and because it was not a matter to be decided by the state government.
His comments provoked an uproar from the audience, and some of the more agitated people began throwing water bottles towards the stage. However, the bottles did not reach the minister; they landed a few feet away from the dais.
Police officials immediately formed a security ring around the stage and the organisers asked people to calm down.
Even as commotion ensued, the home minister continued his speech. He asked how the Congress planned to address issues as it had no chance of coming to power in the near future. Enraged by this, the Congress leaders in attendance began objecting aloud. Later, BJP leader Ashok Reddy also protested when he was told that the Centre was not helping the Telangana government.
The organisers had to remind the leaders that the event was not a political meeting.
