Kottayam: Report on illegal construction submitted to additional AG

Kottayam: Devikulam sub-collector Renu Raj gave a report to the additional advocate- general on Monday regarding the illegal construction carried out by Munnar panchayat.

The three-page report said that the Munnar panchayat secretary had violated the High Court order and that contempt of court action should be initiated against him. Renuraj told reporters at Munnar that further action will be taken on the basis of the report.

The panchayat had been building a women’s industrial centre at old Munnar river side without getting a no-objection certificate from the government. Munnar village officer Ayoob Khan had issued a stop memo. However, the officials did not stop the work.

The revenue officials were blocked by a group of people led by Devikulam MLA S. Rajendran who insulted the sub-collector in front of the public.
The report said the construction violated the stop memo and that the work was being held in the presence of Mr Rajendran.
