Hyderabad: Students of Osmania University burned an effigy of minister K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday in front of Arts College alleging that his “followers”  have been harassing girls at Sircilla government welfare hostels.

According to an official note from the Rajanna Sircilla Scheduled Castes welfare officer E. Rajeswari, on Tuesday cases were booked on catering contractor T. Devayya and cook Vijayamma at the Government SC Welfare Hostel for sexually harassing girls through social media and posting videos. The catering contract was suspended and the report regarding the same was submitted to the collector.

Following this, OU students alleged that Devayya and others involved in similar cases were followers and demanded that the minister should take action in this regard. Madiga Student Federation (MSF) president Rudravram Lingaswamy said, “Several girls from government hostels are being sexually assaulted and some are even being trapped into prostituition, and a proper enquiry should be done in this regard. It’s KTR followers who have been harassing girls.”
