KOZHIKODE: After a tumultuous feat in the political scenario of the state, Aryadan Muhammed, 80, is getting ready to say good bye to electoral politics.  And after decades of political activism at the grassroots in Nilambur, Aryadan Shoukkath, son of Aryadan Muhammed, is all set to enter the larger scene of state politics.

Like father, the name of son also is popular in Nilambur. Aryadan Muhammed had himself declared in 2011 that it would be his last lap in electoral politics. And now he kept the word, reiterating what he had said.

Mr Shoukkath, 51, had an early start in politics after being elected school leader of Government Manavedan High School, Nilambur, in 1980 but many feel that the giant stature of his father in the state politics forced him to stay back in the shadows.

On his possible entry into the poll fray Mr  Aryadan Shoukkath told DC that he has been always among the people. “I always loved to be in the grassroots where we would get the feel of our good deeds,” he said. “I have been enjoying it for the last many years and now party leaders and my well wishers say that I should work on a larger canvas where my efforts could help a larger mass.” Many social welfare projects he started were praised well and adopted at state-level, he said.

Mr Shoukkath served Nilambur as member of village panchayat, panchayat president and chairman of the municipality. Aryadan Muhammed would remain as the master strategist of the Congress but would be off from electoral politics and responsibilities.
